PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of shortening the time required for preview display and making it possible to expect the improvement of productivity. SOLUTION: When generating a preview image from a large amount of an original under a both-side read mode, a first preview image is generated by reading all the images on one surface of the original first (S11-S15), a second preview image is generated by reading the images on the other surface thereafter (S17-S21), and after the read of the images on both surfaces is ended, first finish information and second finish information are combined to generate finish information equivalent to the case of successively reading both surfaces of the original (S23) and preview is displayed (S24). Thus, since the need of the original folding time in a conventional both-side read mode is eliminated, the time required for the preview display is shortened. Also, since the time to shift to setting to the preview image can be accelerated as well, the improvement of the productivity is expected. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
