PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To check immediately a result of having specified a region from an actual synthesized video picture after having specified, as a range, a portion where a color desired to be a background color is displayed from a foreground video picture displayed on a screen. SOLUTION: The device is equipped with a key processing means 1 which is supplied with the foreground video picture to produce a key signal indicating a synthesized ratio of the foreground and background video pictures, a control means 2, and a picture image memory 3 for writing the foreground video picture. Based on extraneous information indicating the range specified on the screen, the control means 2 samples pixel data in the range specified in the foreground video picture written in the picture image memory 3 and then determines a background color value on a color space based on the result of the sampling to send the information indicating the background color value determined to the key processing means 1.
