Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a dihydroxybenzene derivative, by which the dihydroxybenzene derivative can efficiently be produced from a dihydroxybenzene and a dibasic carboxylic halide in an optimal and simple combination of unit operations such as a reaction operation. SOLUTION: This method for producing the dihydroxybenzene derivative represented by general formula (3) (wherein R is a 1-16C aliphatic group or a divalent aromatic group) is characterized by comprising (a) a process for dissolving or suspending a dihydroxybenzene in an organic solvent and then partially neutralizing the solution or suspension with a basic compound, (b) a process for dropwisely adding a carboxylic halide to the product to react the product with the carboxylic halide, (c) a process for thermally treating the product at a higher temperature than the temperature in the process (b), (d) a process for bringing the mixture obtained in (c) into contact with water to deposit the product, and then subjecting the product to a solid-liquid separation and to a drying treatment to obtain the solid of the product, (e) a process for adding an organic solvent to the drain obtained in the separation process of (d) to extract the unreacted dihydroxybenzene, and (f) a process for adjusting the concentration of the dihydroxybenzene solution obtained in (e) and then using the solution as a raw material for (a).
