Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the wrong recognition of an unavailable image recording medium as an available one by making it possible to determine whether the image recording medium or the other accessory is in an available state or not even if a power switch is turned off. SOLUTION: When a memory card is loaded to a camera in a state that a power switch is turned off, it is determined whether the memory card is in an available state or not, and a warning is displayed if it is in an unavailable state (e.g. if it has been broken). The warning is displayed in a sentence on a liquid crystal monitor for image display. When a predetermined time is elapsed, the display of the warning is released automatically.
