Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To expand a range of sewable quilting patterns by improving freedom in sewing motion in needles 24a, 26a, and 27a of needle supports 23 and 25. SOLUTION: A plurality of pairs of the needle supports 23 and 25 arranged with the needles 24a, 26a, and 27a in a row in an axial direction orthogonal to a feed direction X of a quilted cloth 4 on a quilting station 7, are disposed in a raw in the feed direction X, and the quilted cloth 4 is quilted while being fed on the quilting station 7 by sewing motion of the needles 24a, 26a, and 27a with vertical movement of the needle supports 23 and 25. Each pair of needle supports 23 and 25 are not only allowed to be simultaneously moved in a vertical direction Z by driving systems M23 and M25, but allowed to be relatively moved in the vertical direction Z independently. In the driving systems M23 and M25, the needle supports 23 and 25 are moved in the vertical direction Z by a driving motor through an electromagnetic clutch. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
