Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system which suppresses the degradation of an electrolyte membrane by suppressing the generation of radicals. SOLUTION: A control part 100 estimates the gas amount transmitting per unit time from a fuel electrode to an oxidant electrode or from the oxidant electrode to the fuel electrode through the electrolyte membrane of a fuel cell 100. The control part 100 makes oxygen in the oxidant electrode consumed when the transmitting gas amount is the prescribed amount or more. The fuel cell system 1 can reduce the generating amount of radicals caused by the reaction of oxygen and hydrogen since consume oxygen in the oxidant electrode is consumed when the gas amount transmitting through the electrolyte membrane is increased.
