Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead acid battery in which reduction of discharge capacity is suppressed and which is not damaged even by combustion of a retention gas. SOLUTION: An electrode plate group consisting of a positive electrode plate, a negative electrode plate, and a separator is housed in a cell chamber and a filling material having a through hole in a space upward the electrode plate group of the cell chamber is filled. The outer size of the filling material is made larger than a gap dimension between the electrode plate group side part and a battery case inner wall, and it is preferable that the filling material does not invade into this part.
