Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technique to appropriately read/write information from/on a developing device, while switching the developing device at an early timing. SOLUTION: After finishing application of developing bias, a developing unit is rotated immediately so as to change-over the developing device. When transition is made from a two-sheet taking operation in a color image forming operation mode to a one-sheet taking operation in the same mode, the time Tstop, when the yellow (Y) developing device stops at an access position where it can access a memory, is short. Here, when substantial stop time T1 if access to the memory is shorter than the time Tneed required to read and write the information, the developing device is changed over without accessing the memory.
