PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air quenching device for castings and a method therefor with which, in air quenching treatment for large-sized thin castings, a difference in the mechanical properties of one casting is reduced. SOLUTION: The air quenching device where preheated workpieces W each made of a preheated aluminum alloy material are quenched by blowing of air is equipped with a cooling means 100 provided with air discharge ports 22 for discharging air to the workpieces W from a plurality of directions, and cooling the workpieces W while regulating the amount of the air discharged from at least a part of the directions.
