PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a glass article having a single or a plurality of recessed parts by heating and softening a flat glass sheet material, wherein a required shape of the glass article can be formed in a comparatively short time and a flat, smooth and clean surface can be formed. SOLUTION: When an exhausting work is started in a forming step with vacuum sucking from an upper part, a softened glass sheet G with heat is softened and deformed to be successively stick toward an upper direction (around center) from the lower direction (around side periphery) of the recessed forming part 12a of a mold 12, that is, softened and deformed to be successively stick to the inside of the recessed forming part 12a from the peripheral area to the central area of the glass sheet G. Accordingly, the glass sheet G is stick to the recessed forming part 12a without remaining an air sump, while softening and deforming, and thus the forming step is finished.
