Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe and reliable elevator which saves on energy of a storage battery provided in an elevator car to extend operation hours of an air conditioner, and ensures electric power used for illumination, an intercom, etc. to ensure safety even when remaining capacity of the storage battery is reduced to a predetermined value by operation of the air conditioner. SOLUTION: The storage battery 21 is provided in the elevator car 4 to operate electrical machinery and apparatus such as the air conditioner 11, a lighting system, an intercom, etc. provided in the elevator car 4 by its electric power. A compressor of the air conditioner 11 is driven at variable speed by an inverter to use direct current output of the storage battery 21 as direct current power supply of the inverter directly.
