Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method by which the register misalignment of a formed image is prevented even when a photoreceptor belt is bent or skids. SOLUTION: When the image is transferred onto the photoreceptor belt 20 supported by a driving shaft 21 and a tension roll 22 and moved by the rotation of the driving shaft 21 by transfer parts 30 and 31, the transfer position of the image by the transfer part 31 is decided based on a distance measured by a distance measuring part 40 arranged between the tension roll 22 and the transfer part 31.
