Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image forming apparatus in which the distance between a density sensor and a fixing device is made longer, and which eliminates the influence on the density sensor by the fixing device and prevents contamination of a detection surface of the density sensor. SOLUTION: The density sensor 60 is disposed on a non-printing surface side of a conveyance path for a paper sheet and thereby the density sensor 60 arranged in the lower part of a heating roller 40 of the fixing device 38 can be separated from the heating roller 40. As a result, the temperature rise of the density sensor 60 by the heating roller 40 can be avoided and the erroneous detection of the toner density can be prevented. Also, the problem of an image quality defect due to contact of the paper sheet to be conveyed with the density sensor 60 is eliminated. Further, there is no possibility that the detection surface of the density sensor 60 is contaminated by toner (so-called cloud toner) floating around an image carrier 20. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
