Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cDNA of an expansin gene (IbExpansin) derived from a sweet potato, a vector for transforming a plant, containing the cDNA, and a plant body transformed by using the vector. SOLUTION: The cDNA of the isolated expansin gene of the sweet potato, having a base sequence comprising a specific sequence is provided. The growth is promoted and the size of the plant is enlarged, especially the volume of production of seeds is tripled in the Arabidopsis thaliana transformed by using the cDNA. The gene can be usefully utilized for development of a plant transformed for increasing the seed productive amount, or a plant transformed for increasing live weight of the plant.
