Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coding method (or turbo code) of parallel connection with more improved permutation characteristics. SOLUTION: The method and device code source digital data. In the method, at least two basic coding steps (11, 12) each including the whole set of source data (15) are used, and a permutation step (13) for modifying the inclusion order of the source data between the basic coding steps (11, 23) is provided. The source data (15) are organized in source code words each including (n) binary source elements, (n) being not less than 2, and the permutation step (13) includes: a step (132) for a reversibly modifying (132) the content of at least certain source code words and outputting the modified code words; a step (131) of performing permutation of the order of the modified code words or source code words.
