Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a powdery mixture for producing an iron based sintered compact with which the strength of an iron based sintered compact can be increased, and an iron based sintered compact having high strength can be obtained even without using expensive alloy elements such as Ni and Mo, and to provide an iron based sintered compact having high strength. SOLUTION: (1) A powdery mixture for producing an iron based sintered compact comprising iron powder and/or iron alloy powder as base powder, and comprising Cu alloy powder and graphite powder, in which the melting point of the Cu alloy powder is ≤1,000°C. (2) A powdery mixture in which the content of Cu in the Cu alloy of the Cu alloy powder is ≥50 mol% in the above powdery mixture. (3) A powdery mixture in which the Cu alloy of the above Cu alloy powder comprises one or more kinds selected from P, Si and Mn as an alloy element(s), and the total content of the alloy element(s) is ≥0.1 mass% by an amount to an iron based sintered compact obtained from the powdery mixture for producing an iron based sintered compact. (4) A powdery mixture in which, when the above Cu alloy comprises one or more kinds selected from P and Si, the total content thereof is 0.1 to 0.5 mass%.
