Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optically active 2-amino-3-(alkoxy-substituted phenyl)propanoate derivative (2) which is an important intermediate in the production of medicines and the like. SOLUTION: This method for producing the optically active 2-amino-3-(alkoxy-substituted phenyl)propanoate derivative (2), comprising reacting an optically active 2-amino-3-(hydroxy-substituted phenyl)propanoate derivative (1) with a chlorinated alkyl compound (3) in an organic solvent, is characterized in that a metal halide is made to coexist to prevent lacemization. Thereby, the highly optically pure, optically active 2-amino-3-(alkoxy-substituted phenyl)propanoate derivative (2) can simply, efficiently and stably be produced in an industrial scale.
