Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing α-glycerophosphorylcholine crystal by carrying out the hydrolytic ring-opening reaction of a 1,3-dioxolane glycerylphosphorylcholine compound expressed by a specific formula in the presence of a cationic ion-exchange resin. SOLUTION: The method for the production of α-glycerophosphorylcholine crystal comprises the reaction of a 1,3-dioxolane compound expressed by a specific formula with 2-chloro-2-oxa-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorane expressed by a specific formula and trimethylamine, the hydrolytic ring-opening reaction of the obtained 1,3-dioxolane-glycerylphosphorylcholine compound expressed by a specific formula in a water-containing solvent in the presence of a cationic ion-exchange resin, and the vacuum drying of the product in the presence of an azeotropic solvent with water to effect the crystallization of the compound.
