Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a self-supported glass film having a high boron oxide content, a low softening point, and no cracks, without needing prolonged drying. SOLUTION: The method for producing the self-supported glass film comprises the steps of: preparing an aqueous boric acid solution containing boric acid and an alkanol amine; producing a mixed liquor containing the aqueous boric acid solution, colloidal silica sol, and a binder; applying the mixed liquor on a substrate; drying the applied mixed liquor to form a precursor film on the substrate; releasing the precursor film from the substrate; and firing the released precursor film.
