Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent excellent in printing property for an in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal aligning agent for the in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display element contains a soluble polyimide having an imide structure expressed by formula (1), obtained by dehydration cyclization of polyamic acid obtained by the reaction of a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and diamine, wherein the imidization rate of the soluble polyimide ranges from 60 to 95%.
