Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device capable of securing the safety at the time of collision by prolonging the collapse stroke of a telescopic shaft at collision without increasing the overall length of the telescopic shaft while the expansion/contraction amount in normal use is well secured. SOLUTION: When a primary collision or a secondary collision occurs, a male intermediate shaft makes relative contraction with respect to a female intermediate shaft 4. As a result, the left end face 222 of an arm 221 of a second yoke 22 at the right end of the male intermediate shaft 3 abuts to the right end face 44 of the female intermediate shaft 4. This causes a leftward collapse load to act on the female intermediate shaft 4, and when the prescribed collapse load F2 is attained, the female intermediate shaft 4 makes together with the male intermediate shaft 3, a collapse movement along a fastening ring 6 toward ahead of the vehicle body.
