Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple separation method of silicon dioxide and an N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone polymer in a composition which contains a silicone dioxide-containing compound and polyvinyl pyrrolidone, and also to provide a quantifying method which prevents the obstruction of the N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone by silicone dioxide contained in the composition containing the silicon dioxide-containing compound and the N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone. SOLUTION: In the separation method of silicone dioxide and the N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone polymer, the composition containing the silicone dioxide-containing compound and the N-vinyl-w-pyrrolidone polymer is washed with methanol and/or a water mixed solvent of methanol. In the quantifying method, after the silicone dioxide and the N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone polymer are separated by the separation method, the N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone polymer is quantified using an analyzing means which uses silicon dioxide dissolved by using the silicon dioxide-containing compound in a sample containing the silicon dioxide-containing compound as an analyzing sample.
