PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane separation activated sludge treatment apparatus capable of treating swiftly when the liquid amount of each treatment tank is abnormally increased. SOLUTION: The apparatus for treating activated sludge to biologically treat the drainage to separate it into the activated sludge and treated water by the membrane suction comprises a raw water adjustment tank (2) for adjusting the liquid level of raw water in a set range, a denitrification tank (3) for denitrifying drainage, and a nitrification tank for carrying out nitrification and phosphorous storage in turn. A membrane filtration unit (5) of one or more is immersed side by side in the nitrification tank (4). The apparatus includes a control part (CP) which automatically increases the suction amount of the treated water from the membrane filtration unit (5) corresponding to its liquid-increasing rate when the liquid level in the raw water adjustment tank (2) is rapidly increased over the set range.
