Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hermetic compressor stably exhibiting high performance and high reliability by using a low friction loss ball joint structure in a connection structure of a connecting rod and a piston. SOLUTION: In the hermetic compressor, a hermetic vessel, a compression element stored in the hermetic vessel, an electric element, and a crank mechanism transmitting rotary force of the electric element to the compression element are provided, the compression element includes a cylinder and a piston reciprocating in the cylinder, the crank mechanism includes the connecting rod connected to the piston, a ball provided on the connecting rod and a ball socket hole provided on the piston are ball-jointed to rotate and freely slide, and lubricating oil is supplied to a sliding part of the ball joint. One of the piston and the connecting rod is made of alloy material containing iron as main component, material of another has 1.5 times or more of hardness of surface layer in Vickers hardness of alloy material containing iron as main component.
