Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming a hydrophobic coating film on a nozzle plate surface of an ink jet print head. SOLUTION: The method includes: the step of forming a nozzle 122 in the nozzle plate 120; the step of stacking a film 130 on the surface of the nozzle plate 120 so as to cover the outlet of the nozzle 122; the step of forming a predetermined metal layer on the inner surface of the film 130 covering the inner wall of the nozzle 122 and the outlet of the nozzle 122 by plating; the step of removing the film 130 from the surface of the nozzle plate 120; the step of forming the hydrophobic coating film 150 on the surface of the nozzle plate 120 so as to cover the metal layer exposed via the outlet of the nozzle 122; and the step of removing the metal layer 144 formed on the inner wall of the nozzle 122 and the hydrophobic coating film 150 formed on the surface of the metal layer 144.
