Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of obtaining a high purity alkaline metal hydroxide by which the heavy metal contamination of the alkaline metal hydroxide by an electrode is prevented and electrolysis is carried out with a lower voltage than that in the conventional electrolysis in the electrolytic refining of the alkaline metal hydroxide. SOLUTION: In the electrolytic refining of the alkaline metal hydroxide, a gold electrode is used for a cathode 32 and/or an anode 31. The gold electrode formed by applying gold on nickel is preferably used.
