Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer image acceptance sheet which is best-suited for a thermal transfer printer, with the availability of a high-density and high-quality image, and displays excellent image shelf stability free from a feathering phenomenon over time in a printing image, with no cracks generated on the surface of an image acceptance layer, and successful handling properties under various circumstances. SOLUTION: This thermal transfer image acceptance sheet comprises a barrier layer and an image acceptance layer laminated in that order, at least on one surface of a sheet-like support. The barrier layer is composed mainly of a silanol-modified polyvinyl alcohol and a swelling inorganic lamellar compound with 0.1 to 20 μm particle average major diameter and 5 to 5,000 aspect ratio (ratio of particle average major diameter of lamellar compound to thickness).
