Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching power supply device that allows the selection of latch-stop type protection or self-reset type protection, while being provided with a plurality of configurations for detecting an excessive load of energy supplied to an output part by the operation of a switching element. SOLUTION: Latch stop is executed, while an FB terminal voltage is also increased when a drain current peak value IDP of the switching element exceeds a prescribed value set as an excessive load in a semiconductor device. When the peak value IDP reaches a maximum value, a CC terminal voltage drops to a prescribed value since output power is not increased even if the load is further increased. At this time, an oscillation period of the switching element is restricted. It is possible to execute latch-stop type excessive load protection by detecting that the peak value IDP exceeds the prescribed value. It is also possible to execute self-reset type excessive load protection by detecting that the CC terminal voltage drops to the prescribed value. Consequently, it is possible to improve the flexibility of design of a switching power supply, by executing two types of excessive load protection with detection of the two types of states, in this manner.
