Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device in which desired luminous intensity characteristics are provided while improving reliability. SOLUTION: The light emitting device comprises: a reflector 40 surrounding an LED chip 10; a lens 60 mounted on a sealing portion 50 and a reflector 40; and a domelike color transformation member 70 arranged to form an air layer 80 between the light exit plane 60b of the lens 60. Between the LED chip 10 and a heat transfer plate 21, a submount member 30 for relaxing a stress acting on the LED chip 10 due to difference in linear expansion coefficient and for thermally coupling them, is interposed. Out of both electrodes of the LED chip 10, the electrode on the submount member 30 side is connected with one bonding wire 14 through a conductor pattern provided on the submount member 30, and the electrode on the side opposite to the submount member 30 is connected directly with other bonding wire 14.
