Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an infrared communication apparatus capable of reducing power consumption. SOLUTION: In the case of performing two-way communication between a present apparatus and an opposite side apparatus, when a first communicable maximum distance determined from the standard transmission output of the present apparatus and the standard reception sensitivity of the opposite side apparatus becomes greater than a second communicable maximum distance determined from the standard transmission output of the opposite side apparatus and the standard reception sensitivity of the present apparatus, transmission is performed with an output smaller than the standard transmission output of the present apparatus.
