PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute progress management or failure management in each manufacturing process even in a state in which any substrate identification code unique for every product is not added to a sheet-shaped product to be manufactured from a sheet substrate. SOLUTION: This method for specifying a sheet substrate to be executed by each device in charge of each process for manufacturing a sheet-shaped product from a sheet substrate, and by a sheet substrate presence circumstance management device for managing the circumstances of each sheet substrate which is present in each device, includes steps of: making the sheet substrate presence circumstance management device apply a temporary identification code to the sheet substrate, and store the information; making each device temporarily store the temporary identification code of the sheet substrate which is present in the device itself, and delivering the sheet substrate and the temporary identification code to a device in the next process when delivering the sheet substrate to the device in the next process; and making each device transmit the temporary identification code of the sheet substrate to be delivered or the sheet substrate to be received to the sheet substrate presence circumstance management device when delivering the sheet substrate.
