PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for distributing, utilizing, and controlling digital works. SOLUTION: Rights of rendering in which watermark information for indicating information for corroborating a rendering result is clearly written are assigned to the digital work to be stored in a distribution repository. An encrypted version of the digital work is stored in a user repository from the distribution repository. When rendering of the digital work is requested, the user repository determines whether the digital work has appropriate rights of the rendering or not. When the digital work does, the user repository communicates with the rendering repository to establish a fiducial session, forwarding the digital work to the session. The rendering repository collects the watermark information written clearly in the rights of the rendering to encode data for a watermark and decodes the encryption of the digital work to embed the watermark information in the data encoded, thus transmitting the data embedded with the watermark information to a rendering device to perform the rendering.
