Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water absorbing nonwoven fabric superior in formability, dimensional stability, and mechanical characteristics such as water absorptivity and rigidity, and suitable for humidifier water absorbing material, dew condensation absorbing material, a steam scattering plate, or a humidity conditioning plate, or the like. SOLUTION: The nonwoven fabric includes 50-95mass% of acrylic fiber with a substantially C-shaped fabric cross section, and 5-50mass% of heat adhesive fiber. Constituent fibers are bonded by the heat adhesive fibers, and the density is 0.1-0.5g/cm3. The humidifier element is comprised by joining base materials comprised by forming the water absorbing nonwoven fabric like a tabular sheet or a corrugated sheet, and forming cavities for air communication between adjacent base materials.
