PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water treatment apparatus capable of securely decomposing an organic substance under water in a water storage tank, suppressing the generation of a bad odor by contamination of water, and inhibiting the growth of a moss and an alga. SOLUTION: The water treatment apparatus includes the water storage tank such as a fishes breeding tank 1, an auxiliary tank 2 circulating water in the water storage tank through a suction pipe 3 and a return pipe 4, a photocatalytic particle 7 placed in the auxiliary tank 2, and an excitation light source such as an ultraviolet lamp 8 irradiating the photocatalytic particle 7 with excitation light. The water sucked from the water storage tank to the auxiliary tank 2 through the suction pipe 3 is purified by the photocatalytic particle 7 irradiated with the excitation light in the auxiliary tank 2 and the purified water is returned from the auxiliary tank 2 to the water storage tank through the return pipe 4 to purify the water in the water storage tank.
