Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower the heat-resistant temperature of a luminous flux control means for reducing irregular intensity and irregular color caused by the vignetting at the edge of a projection lens, and also to restrain the lowering of contrast caused by stray light. SOLUTION: The projection type display device is equipped with: a light source; a liquid crystal panel; an integrator comprising a first lens array and a second lens array and uniformly illuminating the liquid crystal panel; the projection lens for enlarging and projecting an optically modulated image by the liquid crystal panel onto a screen; and the luminous flux control means for controlling luminous flux made incident on the integrator from the light source between the light source and the integrator. The luminous flux made incident from the peripheral part of the reflection mirror of the light source out of the luminous flux made incident on the integrator from the light source is intercepted by the luminous flux control means.
