SOLUTION: Concerning an air cleaning system for vehicle having the air cleaning catalyst carried in a wide range by the radiator 110 of the vehicle, in the system and method for detecting the deterioration, the air before passing the radiator 110 is collected and the pollutant concentration is detected, and each air passing a plurality of portions in the radiator 110 is collected and each pollutant concentration is detected, to thereby detect accurately the average deterioration degree of the whole air cleaning catalyst.
