Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always keep constant the orientation of an end effector at the tip of an arm of a robot without the need of complicated control and without any increase in number of a driving shaft. SOLUTION: This industrial robot includes: a base part 11 disposed in the uppermost position; a horizontal multi-joint arm 12 hung down from the base part 11; a vertical arm 18 freely moving in the vertical direction, which is provided at the tip of the horizontal multi-joint arm 12; a wrist part 20 having an end effector 22 connected to the lower end part of the vertical arm 18; and further a parallel link mechanism for retaining the orientation of the end effector 22 in a fixed direction, in conjuction with the rotation of the horizontal joint arm 12.
