Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized optical switch system which can have a large ON/OFF ratio of light, and to provide a manufacturing method thereof as to an optical switch used for a device which switches the light of a projector, optical communication, etc. SOLUTION: A sintered material of PLZT is used for a defect layer 3 and by polishing it is made into a thin film. Its thickness (d) is determined by satisfying a prescribed relation with the refractive index (n) of the material of the defect layer, to obtain a transmissivity spectral half-value width Wt, with which ample extinction ratio can be obtained, even if the half-value width is about 1 nm for spectrum when an LD is an incident light.
