Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and system for foam matrix embolization. SOLUTION: This medical device to be placed at a predetermined position in a passageway in a human body is designed to be a flexible and expandable embolization device and system to be able to make an embolism of a blood vessel or a blood vessel defect such as an aneurysm or fistula, after delivered by a catheter to the predetermined position in the blood vessel. More specifically, the embolization device comprises an elongated coil having a lumen, the coil and lumen being at least partially embedded in an elongated foam member comprising, in some practical uses, a flexible, biodegradable, water-soluble, open, and interconnecting cell foam material which has embolic characteristics and is capable of allowing cell proliferation into the open cell foam interior.
