Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate an area where an electrode for electrical discharge machining for removing an uncut area of a workpiece to be cut is prepared correctly and in a short period of time, to thereby improve the manufacturing efficiency of a product. SOLUTION: In generation of the area for preparing the electrode for electrical discharge machining, a shape calculating step is carried out by calculating a tool path surface according to an inverted offset method based on shape information of the product and shape information of a rotary tool, and calculating shape information of the workpiece, obtained by moving the rotary tool along the calculated tool path surface. The shape calculating step is carried out for each of the plurality of rotary tools for use in the cutting. Then the shape information of the workpiece, obtained in the shape calculating step carried out for the rotary tool used in the final cutting, is compared with the shape information of the product, and an area of difference between both pieces of the information is determined as the uncut area.
