PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an epoch-making cracking apparatus extremely excellent in practicality, capable of surely carrying out cracking of shell of ginkgo nut, etc., without damaging the contents and capable of efficiently obtaining ginkgo nut, etc., free from damage in shell-free state. SOLUTION: The cracking apparatus cracks only hard member (b) of a lump body 1 in which a hard member (b) is provided on the surface of a soft member (a). When the lump body 1 is nipped by a receiving body 10 and a pressing part 3 and the pressing part 3 is connected through a pressure-transmitting part 4 to a pressure-generating body 2 and when the hard member (b) of the lump body 1 nipped by the pressing part 3 and the receiving body 10 is broken by pressure of the pressing part 3 and the moving amount of the pressing part 3 moving in the receiving body direction is rapidly increased, connection between the pressing part 3 and the pressure-generating part 2 is released and transmission of pressure from the pressure-generating part 2 through the pressure-transmitting part 4 to the pressing part 3 is blocked.
