Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an MEA having a solid polymer electrolyte membrane having high proton conductivity over a wide temperature range and excelling in hot water resistance, chemical stability, ductility and mechanical strength. SOLUTION: This membrane-electrode assembly for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell is composed by forming an anode electrode on one-side surface of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane and forming a cathode electrode on the other-side surface thereof. The solid polymer electrolyte membrane contains a specific constituent unit having a sulfonate group and contains a polyarylene-based copolymer prepared by introducing a fluorine group and a nitrile group into a main chain.
