Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode for electrolysis composed of an easily obtainable inexpensive material and easily maintainable at low cost, and to provide an electrolytic cell utilizing the electrode. SOLUTION: In the multiple electrode, one electrode for electrolysis is composed of a solid electrode body and an auxiliary electrode part covering the electrode face of the electrode body and including a large quantity of dispersed voids. By forming the electrode body and the auxiliary electrode part of the same kind of material, e.g., charcoal as the main component, the auxiliary electrode part is preferentially worn. To the wear of the auxiliary electrode part, e.g., by replenishing the fine pieces of bamboo charcoal or wood charcoal, its maintenance can be easily performed at low cost.
