Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biological observation system which produces spectral image signals appropriately corresponding to different tissues or the like of a living body and improves operationality in observations or the like of spectral images. SOLUTION: A subject is irradiated with a white light of a lamp 15 of a light source part 41 from a distal end of a scope 101. R, G, and B color image signals produced by holding signals, color-imaged by a CCD 21, as samples in a main processor 43 produce normal images through a normal image producing part 437 or the like, and produce spectral signals F1, F2, F3 of a narrow band by a matrix operation unit 436. Then, the spectral signals F1, F2, F3 are turned into spectral channel image signals Rnbi, Gnbi, Bnbi by a color adjusting unit 440. Operation to switch images to be displayed and setting to switch a coefficient for the matrix operation at the matrix operation unit 436 to an appropriate one depending on the kind of the subject are performed by operating an operational panel 441 or the like.
