Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricating oil composition (or lubricant) for a crankcase of an internal combustion engine, particularly a composition suitable for the use in a piston engine, especially for the lubrication of a gasoline engine (spark ignition) and diesel engine (compression ignition), and provide an additive for the composition to reduce wear. SOLUTION: The lubricating oil composition for a crankcase of an internal combustion engine has a phosphorus content of ≤0.08 mass% and contains a metal detergent additive system comprising calcium salicylate and magnesium salicylate and having a mass ratio of magnesium atoms to calcium atoms of >1.
