PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toilet cover/toilet seat opening/closing mechanism having a simple structure and capable of easily opening/closing a toilet cover and a toilet seat with a single DC motor. SOLUTION: The toilet cover/toilet seat opening/closing mechanism is provided with a drive mechanism 11 and 12 for rotating a toilet cover drive gear 13 at a time when the single motor 10 rotates in one rotational direction and for rotating a toilet seat drive gear 14 at a time when the motor 10 rotates in the other direction, a first gear train having the gear 13 and a first intermediate gear 15 mating with a cover opening/closing gear 17 and a second gear train having the gear 14, a first gear 22 mating with the gear 14 via an idle gear 18 and a second intermediate gear 20 having a second gear 21 mating with a toilet seat opening/closing gear 27. The gear 22 and the gear 21 are so disposed that a tooth-free region 22a of the gear 22 approaches the gear 17 and a tooth-free region 21a of the gear 21 approaches the gear 27. The gear 21 is so disposed that the starting end 21b of the tooth of the gear 21 in the rotational direction is placed in a position behind that of a starting end 22b of the tooth of the gear 22 in the rotational direction.
