Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a power factor by increasing the continuity angle of an input current by simple control, and to obtain large output. SOLUTION: A power supply comprises: rectification circuits 3a-3d for rectifying an AC supply voltage 1 to output a pulsating voltage; a reactor 2 connected to the rectification circuits 3a-3d; first and second opening/closing means 8, 9 that are composed of semiconductor switches and connect and interrupt a current path; a capacitor 5 for power factor improvement that is connected to the opening/closing means 8 in series and is connected between the AC input terminal and the DC output terminal of the rectification circuits 3a-3d; a capacitor 6 for phase improvement that is connected to the second opening/closing means 9 in series and is connected between the AC input terminals of the rectification circuits 3a-3d; and a smoothing capacitor 4 for smoothing an output voltage in the rectification circuit to obtain an almost DC voltage.
