Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium reproducing apparatus where power consumption is reduced by stopping rotation of a disk while content data is not read and where playability and responsiveness to input of an external key are improved. SOLUTION: A system control part 106 instructs a servo control part 105 to stop the rotation of a spindle motor 102 after reading of content data reproduced presently by an optical pickup 103 is finished. When the remainder of data accumulated in a buffer memory 113 becomes equal to or smaller than a threshold value (n) calculated with (a) a starting time of the spindle motor 102, (b) a moving time of the optical pickup 103 and (c) the reading speed of the data from the buffer memory 113, the spindle motor 102 is rotated forcedly, and reading of content data to be reproduced next is started.
