Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image retrieval method, device and program for extracting images similar to a query image from a large quantity of data images without omission. SOLUTION: This device comprises a mapping means 7 mapping pixels belonging to a data image in a three-dimensional color space; a counting means 8 counting the number of pixels of the image data (hereinafter referred to as "the number of pixels") present in an outer area of a minimum cone having the straight line passing through the center of gravity of a group of all pixels belonging to a query image mapped in the color space and the origin of the color space as a rotating axis and the origin as an apex (hereinafter referred to as query cone), the query cone including all pixels belonging to the query image within an inside area; and a threshold determination means 9 determining that the data image is an image close to the query image when the number of pixel is smaller than a predetermined threshold.
