SOLUTION: This hair dye contains at least one kind of compound expressed by general formula (1) (Q is a group necessary for forming a chromophore of a methine pigment; Z1is an atomic group necessary for forming a nitrogen-containing heterocycle; R1is an alkyl, an aryl or a heterocyclic of which the each is substituted by a quaternary ammonium group or a quaternary nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group; L1and L2are each methine; M1is an electric charge-balancing counter ion; p1is 0 or 1; and m1is a number necessary for neutralizing an electric charge in a molecule and 0 or more) as a direct dye, wherein the compound expressed by general formula (1) is the same compound, although the compound is expressed by two kinds of resonance canonical structures.
